Commissioner Wheeler’s Office Announces New Name for South County Library and Community Center
March 25, 2025, The Woodlands, TX — Commissioner Ritch Wheeler of Precinct 3, Montgomery County, Texas, is proud to announce the renaming of the South Montgomery County Library and South County Community Center to the Kevin Brady Library and Community Center.
Congressman Kevin Brady has been a steadfast advocate for Montgomery County and the surrounding region. A former leader of the Woodlands/South Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Brady played a key role in successful bond campaigns for schools, roads, and libraries. While serving in the Texas House of Representatives, as the first resident of The Woodlands to serve in Austin, he authored the bill that created The Woodlands Township Improvement District, which laid the foundation for the community’s growth.
Brady then served in Congress for 26 years. He was the first Montgomery County resident to serve in Congress and became the third Texan in history to lead the House Ways and Means Committee where he authored the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act for President Trump – the first comprehensive reform of America’s tax code since President Reagan in 1986.
“There is no one more deserving of this honor than Kevin Brady, a true champion for Montgomery County. Renaming the South County Library and Community Center is a lasting tribute to his unwavering dedication to public service and his profound impact on the lives of those in Montgomery County and beyond” said Commissioner Wheeler.
In 2023, the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, in partnership with Howard Hughes, approved a landmark agreement to transform the South County Library and Community Center into a more modern and accessible facility for all residents. The new project includes a spacious, state-of-the-art community center designed to enhance voting, community activities, meetings, and senior lunch programs. The upgraded library will feature a dedicated children’s area, a young adult’s room, multiple study and workrooms, and a 100-person theatre-style classroom.
Howard Hughes acquired Grogan’s Mill Village Center and played a critical role in the redevelopment initiative. “We are excited to collaborate with Montgomery County on revitalizing this important gathering place for our community,” said Jim Carman, President of the Houston Region at Howard Hughes. “The new name honors Congressman Brady’s years of dedicated service—not only at the local, state, and national level but also to The Woodlands community. The revitalization of the Grogan’s Mill Village Center is a key initiative that benefits all stakeholders, ensuring it remains a vibrant destination for generations to come.”
The Kevin Brady Library and Community Center will continue to serve as a central hub for the community, providing a space for learning, connection, and collaboration for years to come. For more information, please contact:
